The investigations were performed on 18 to 21 football players during the preparating (stages I, II, III) and starting (IV, V) periods of training. The maximal oxygen uptake (V02 max), maximal carbodiooxide expiration 2 (VCO2 max), respiration coefficient (RQ), Heart rate (HR) as 2 well as oxygen heart rate (V02 max : HR) were estimated. The training procedure during preparating period of spring round had its influence on increasing V02 max (I : II p < 0,001; I:III p <0,001), but during the starting period Vq max had temporaly decreased (II:IV p < 0,001; III:IV p < 0,001). Any significant differences were found between values of HR befor and shortly after maximal exercise in all the investigated stages, but hR values measured after sub- maximal exercise showed a tendency to decrease (I:III p < 0,05; I: IV p < 0,05). The oxygen heart rate and VCO2 max changes were similar in their direction to those found in V02 max. RQ increased significantly in the V stage of investigations.
