The research was conducted on 6 sites situated 2 - 5 km from the centre of the town in the directions of NE, E and SE. The research referred to cultivable, meadow and forest soil. 16 soil profiles were examined altogether. The soil samples were taken for four years (1991 - 1994) from the humus and under-humus layer (30 - 40 cm). The main targets of our study were to estimate alterations in content of the total sulphur and pH of soil, and the attempt to find the dependence of these properties of soil. Received findings gave evidence of great dynamics of reaction and content of sulphur in examined soil. Both rise and fall of pH of soil were noticed. The same situation was observed with the total content of sulphur. Urban-industrial agglomeration and natural soil processes are thought to affect considerably the general state of acidifying of soil. Conspicuous and parallel alterations in reaction and content of the total sulphur in soil were not recorded.
