Department of Horticulture, Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences Wobec wielu problemów związanych z utrzymaniem trawników, zwłaszcza w miejscach, w których warunki siedliskowe są niekorzystne, coraz większego znaczenia nabierają byliny okry¬wowe. Celem pracy była ocena cech morfologicznych, użytkowych i dynamiki kwitnienia wy¬branych, mało poznanych gatunków bylin przydatnych do zastosowania jako rośliny okrywowe. Doświadczenie zostało przeprowadzone od 12 kwietnia 2007 do 30 września 2009 r. Obiektem badań było 6 taksonów bylin: krwawnik baldaszkowaty Achillea umbellata, dąbrówka Tenora Ajuga x tenorii 'Valfredda', dziurawiec rogownicowaty Hypericum cerastoides, pszczelnik wąsko¬listny Dracocephalum ruyschiana, penstemon sosnowaty Penstemon pinifolius i pięciornik trój- zębny Potentilla tridentata 'Nuuk'. Ocenę dekoracyjności oparto na pomiarach wegetatywnych i generatywnych części roślin. Wrażenie estetyczne badanych roślin oceniono metodą bonitacyjną, a okrycie gleby skalą Brauna-Blanquetta. Niezależnie od roku, najdłuższym kwitnieniem odzna¬czały się penstemon sosnowaty i dąbrówka Tenora 'Valfredda', a najkrótszym pszczelnik wąsko¬listny. Wszystkie wybrane do doświadczenia gatunki i odmiany bylin miały duże walory dekoracyj¬ne, ale szczególnie dziurawiec rogownicowaty, krwawnik baldaszkowaty i penstemon sosnowaty. Spośród badanych taksonów największe znaczenie jako byliny okrywowe mogą mieć dziurawiec rogownicowaty, krwawnik baldaszkowaty i dąbrówka Tenora 'Valfredda'.

Since there are numerous problems connected with maintaining lawn, particularly in places, where site conditions are disadvantageous, covering perennials become increasingly meaningful. The aim of the experiment was to assess morphological and functional features as well as the dyna¬mics of flowering of less known perennials that can be planted as covering plants. The experiment with six taxa: Achillea umbellata Sibth. et Sm., Ajuga x tenorii 'Valfredda', Hypericum cerastoides (Spach) N.Robson., Dracocephalum ruyschiana L., Penstemon pinifolius Greene and Potentilla tridentata 'Nuuk' was conducted between the 12th of April 2007 and the 30th of September, 2009. The evaluation of decorating value was based on measurements of vegetative and generative parts of plants. Ornamental effect was assesed by using the quality classification system, while covering of soil by Braun-Blanquett's scale. Independently on the year, Penstemon pinifolius and Ajuga x te¬norii 'Valfredda charcterized the longest flowering, while Dracocephalum ruyschiana flowered for the shortest time. All the taxa chosen to the experiment had high decorative value, but Hypericum cerastoides, Achillea umbellata and Penstemon pinifolius was classified as the most decorative. Among all taxa the greatest meaning as covering plant seem to have Hypericum cerastoides, Achil- lea umbellata and Ajuga x tenorii 'Valfredda'.
