Pregnant sows in an industrialized farm were vaccinated against colibacillosis of newborn piglets using a vaccine containing a local enterotoxinogenic serotype of Escherichia coli. Vaccination of 7500 sows twice, using 5 cm³ of the vaccine containing 1 X 10⁹ cells of E. coli/cm³ 5 weeks before parturition and 3 cm³ of the vaccine 2 weeks before parturition eliminated almost completely losses of newborn piglets caused by colibacillosis, restricted the appearance of diarrhoea caused by local serotypes of E. coli (ETEC, CFA+). Moreover, the applied immunoprophylactic system enabled a better development of piglets in the period before weaning.
