Kryzys klimatyczny i środowiskowy będzie tym silniej nas dotykał, im mniej skutecznie będziemy chronić różnorodność biologiczną. Obecnie 14,7% powierzchni lądów oraz 3,6% powierzchni oceanów jest pod ochroną. Wiele z tych obszarów znajduje się pod potężną ludzką presją. W ostatnich opracowaniach naukowych dotyczących wielkości przestrzeni potrzebnej do ochrony różnorodności biologicznej i zachowania korzyści ekosystemowych autorzy postulują objęcie ochroną 30% lądów i oceanów do 2030 r. i 50 % do 2050 r

The climate and environmental crisis will affect us more strongly, the less we will effectively protect biodiversity. Currently, 14.7% of the land area and 3.6% of the ocean area is under protection. Many of these areas are under powerful human pressure. In recent scientific studies concerning the size of the space needed to protect biodiversity and preserve the ecosystem services, the authors postulate protection of 30% of land and oceans by 2030 and 50% by 2050
