The process of economic and social transformation in Poland in the 1990s ushered in changes to rural parts of Lower Silesia. These are visible in a decline in the educational and healthcare infrastructure. As a result of the reforms carried out, the number of schools, grammar-schools, surgeries and health centres decreased. Consequently, people living in rural areas have worse access to health services and must drive their children to school. Only the number of chemist's shops has shown an increase in the period under analysis.
