The aim of the studies was the determine of the effect of different conventional tillage variants, altered rates of nitrogen and potassium fertilization on weed infestation of maize examined at the harvest time, expressed as dry weight of weeds and the number of weeds per square meter. The lowest dry weight of weeds was recorded under conservation tillage with mulch of vetch, the highest – after rye as a cover crop. N and K rates significantly affected only the total number of weeds, which was higher on the plots with lowered fertilization. Three dominant weed species were: Chenopodium album, Galinsoga parviflora and Echinochloa crus-galli.
