In 1988 were under veterinary inspection 549 fallow deers, 77 327 wild boars, more than 45 000 deers and elks, more than 105 000 hares and 52 polish bisons. By veterinary post mortem examination the following abnormalities were diagnosed: putrification, ematiation, sepsis, pyemia, trichinellosis, cysticercosis, liver fluke invasion, tuberculosis, tuberculous-like lesions. The percent of unfit carcasses varied from 0.27% (roe-deers) to 1.08 (wild boars), but in some regions it varied from 0.02% to 1.70% (roe-deers), 0.04% to 2.45% (stags), 0.27% to 3.36% (wild boars). Parasites were found in almost 10% of the examined animals. Trichinella invasion was found in 223 wild boars (0.28%). Rabies was diagnosed in 3 stags, 1 elk, 59 roe-deers and 3 wild boars. The most dangerous for humans appeared to be rabies of free living animals and trichinellosis in wild boars.
