Badania obejmowały oznaczanie zawartości ftalidów, związków lotnych o charakterze biologicznie aktywnym, w selerze korzeniowym. Analizie poddano 18 odmian selera. Wskazano odmiany o najkorzystniejszym, pod tym względem, składzie chemicznym.

Phthalides of 18 varieties of celeriae were analyzed by GC/MS metod. The characteristic odor of celeriac is due to a series of phthalide derivatives. 6 phthalides were identified: 3-n-bytulphthalide, sedanenolide, cis-sedanolide, trans-sedanolide, cis-ligustilide and trans-ligustilide. The most important biological active compounds are 3-n-butylphthalide and sedanolide. They reveal antioxidative, anticancerogenic, hypotensive and hypocholesterolemic effect. The received results show that varieties of celery arc different as regards concentration of tested components. Variety which shows the highest ftalids concentration is cascade.
