The review discusses achievements in horticultural sciences in three subject groups. The first part presents the development of research centers from the period between World Wars I and II, through the post-war years up to 1990. It also discusses the results of studies, their dissemination and effect on the development of production in pomology. The second part presents the development of research, its results and effects as regards vegetable crop production. The third part embraces scientific studies and their results relating to ornamental plants, apiculture and cultivated mushrooms.
