Permanent grasslands, distinguished for their rich botanical composition, supply forage abounding in magnesium, provided there are sufficient quantities of this element in the aoli. Shortages of magnesium occur frequently in single spacies plantations. It is, therefore, essentioal to select the appropriate variety, or even cultivar, of grass if production of forage of optimal magnesium content is to be obtained. Another keyissue for solving the problem of magnesium deficit is making aure that the magnesium found in plants occurs in water soluble compounds, i.e. in forms easily assimilated by plants.
