Stosując dostępne dane statystyczne o wielkości i strukturze spożycia żywności oraz wyniki własne badań zawartości manganu w ponad 6800 próbek środków spożywczych pochodzenia roślinnego i zwierzęcego, oszacowano wielkość spożycia tego mikroelementu przez populację zamieszkującą woj. gdańskie i Makroregion Północny kraju w latach 1986-1990.

A theoretical assessment was made on dietary intake of manganese by inhabitants of Gdańsk Voivodeship, of the Northern Macroregion (Voivodeships of Gdańsk, Koszalin, Słupsk and Szczecin) and of the whole Poland in 1986-1990. The daily intakes of manganese were: between 3.98 and 5.54 mg for the inhabitants of Gdańsk Voivodeship, 4.29 to 5.68 for those of the Northern Macroregion and roughly 7.92 to 8.03 mg for the general population of Poland. The daily manganese intake among the members of worker families both in the Gdańsk Voivodeship and in the Northern Macroregion was by 15-25% and 15-28% smaller, respectively, than that of the members of worker-villager and villager families. Estimated daily per capita manganese intake value for the general population of Poland was by 29 to 50% higher than that for the inhabitants of the Gdańsk Voivodeship and Northern Macroregion calculated from exact data on food consumption for the Gdańsk Voivodeship and Northern Macroregion. The estimated daily manganese intake values for the general Polish population were probably ca. 30% and 100%, respectively, higher compared with the data for the inhabitants of the Northern Macroregion and Gdańsk Voivodeship because exact data on the intake of the four main cereal crops and vegetables were not available. For the inhabitants of the Northern Macroregion, the cereals contributed 63-72% of the total dietary intake of manganese; other major contributors included potatoes (9.6-12%), tea infusion (6.7-12%), vegetables (5.8-6.8%), sugar, sweets and honey (1.2-2.7%), fruits (0.95-2.4%), meat, fish and fat (1.0-1.5%), eggs, milk and cheese (0.6-0.74%) and coffee infusion (0.25-0.7%). These results are compared with the available results of other Polish authors.
