Diploid Dactylis glomerata L. subsp. aschersoniana (Graebn.) Thell. is a late form with good winterhardiness and resistance to shading. It was used as a component of binary mixtures with alfalfa. The many years experiment was laid out as a randomised complete block design at two locations and it was utilised for three consecutive years. There were harvested four cuts each year. Total dry matter yields of Dactylis glomerata L. subsp. aschersoniana monoculture were lower than those of cocksfoot for all years of utilisation. However, in all cases Dactylis glomerata L. subsp. aschersoniana-alfalfa mixtures outyielded or tended to outyield pure alfalfa. Mean percentage of alfalfa in dry matter of mixtures with Dactylis glomerata L. subsp. aschersoniana was many times higher than in the mixture with more aggressive tetraploid cocksfoot. Organic dry mattcr in vitro digestibility of the mixtures with Dactylis glomerata L. subsp. aschersoniana ranged from 61,5% in the 1st cut to 77,8% in the 4th one. In the 1st cut, it was significantly higher than in the mixture with cocksfoot.
