The paper contains a list of 175 Syrphidae species collected in Puszcza Białowieska in the most typical habitats of the area, such as: pine forests, mixed forests, oak forests, dry-ground forests, ash-alder carrs, alder carrs and wet riverside meadows. An ecological analysis has been performed including phagous diversity of Syrphidae, activity patterns and habitat preferences. The paper also includes a zoogeographical description of the dipteran group studied. Problems of phenology and synanthropisation of the Syrphidae of this region are discussed as well.
