W pracy przedstawiono przegląd hipotez struktury substancji humusowych. Z powodu heterogeniczności tych substancji nie jest możliwe zdefiniowanie powtarzalnych struktur, a w badaniach należy operacyjnie posługiwać się pojęciem "system substancji humusowych".

This paper describes past and present concepts of the structure of humic substances. Humic substances represent a heterogenous complex mixture of molecules, a pattern of the basic structure of humic substances can be rcffcrcd to as a "system of humic substances".
