The article deals with the impact of Common Agricultural Policy being introduced on rural areas, on an example of a German state Baden-Württemberg. It focuses on the changes in the number of farms and on the evolution of management methods. Factors and ways of influencing the development of rural areas were also discussed with special emphasis put on the role of education. Baden-Württemberg's experiences may be very useful in preparing Poland's strategy of rural areas development.
