Modern biotechnology will contribute to the progress of plant breeding and food production. At the moment we can distinguish three generations of transgenic plants. The area of transgenic crops increasing from year to year, reached last year nearly 60 mln hectares in the world. At the same time, especially in Europe, we are dealing with increasing concerns about uncontrolled employment of new biotechnology. It seems to be, that time is necessary, in order to estimate the real benefits and risks connected with releasing of modified plants to the environment and using them as a food.
