On the basis of authors' own study and literature review the ways for interpreting plant chemical composition were discussed as well as the possibility of utilizing the chemical composition to evaluate interrelationships between environmental quality and the quantity and quality of biomass produced. To evaluate these interrelationships various authors proposed diverse approaches with respect to the expression of component accumulation in plants departing from so-called conventional interpretation based on the separate analysis of each component content. Author presented the ways of applying her own ANE method (Accumulation (of) Nutrient Elements method) which enables to express the plant chemical composition as the sum of all analyzed elements per mass unit and to use the percentage of each element in above sum. The examples of the above method of application were also given and its suitability was discussed, in particular to evaluate the element flow in a trophic chain.
