A difficult situation of Polish agriculture forces the farm owners to search for new additional sources of incomes outside the agriculture. One of the possibilities especially in north-eastern parts of Poland is agrotourism. The main goal of the study was the recognition social and economical conditions for development of agrotourism in Warmia and Mazury region. The study was carried out in 1997-98 on 141 farms interested in agrotourism. It was confirmed that the farm owners interested in agrotourism were young and of relatively high education level. The main motive which persuade the farmers to start agrotourism activity is mainly desire to achieve the additional incomes. The nextreason is a will of using the empty rooms and atractive placement of farms. The main barriers which impede the development of agrotourism in region are problems with finding financial sources, lack of proper promotion, troubles with getting adequate workers and improper law and administrative regulations. An advertisement, preference credit system and appropriate level of infrastructure are in opinion of the respondents main factors which stimulate increase of numbers of farmers deciding to start agrotourism activities.
