In 2005 when work on ISO 9001 revision update has already started, IAF general assembly received distressing feedback from the market stating that increasing number of organizations could no longer rely on the performance of its suppliers certified to ISO 9001. They decided that actions must be taken urgently to change this troubling trend. Therefore, it has been developed a plan containing several initiatives with the common purpose to increase the customers confidence in quality management systems certifications. The task allocated to the ІSO/TC 176 technical committee responsible for ISO 9001 revision was to review the requirements contained in ISO 9001:2000 to check if those were sufficient for supporting the main objective of this standard, ie. to provide confidence that organizations which implemented quality management system based on the above mentioned standard demonstrate their ability to consistently provide conforming products to customers.
