The studies were performed on 28 calves aged 2-8 weeks, which were divided into four equal groups. The calves of group I were given 500 mg of zinc in the form of a water solution of ZnCh. Group II received the same dose of ZnCl2 and 2500 mg of Mg (water solution of MgCl2 x x 6H2O) and group III - only 2500 mg (MgCl2 x 6H2O). The preparations were given orally, once a day, for 4 weeks. Group IV served as the control. The following parameters were assayed: conglutinin titre and the content of carotins, vitamin A and gamma-globulin in their serum. The administration of zinc and magnesium chloride for 4 weeks caused a marked increase of the conglutinin titre and carotins, vitamin A and gamma-globulin concentration in the serum of the calves.
