Plants of stinging nettle (Urtica dioica L.) were collected on ten natural sites in Małopolska and the content of Fe, Mn, Ni, Cr, Zn, Cu, Pb, and Cd in their underground parts, leaves, stems, and inflorescences was determined. In soil from observation sites the level of the same metals and some physical and chemical properties were analysed. No direct relationship between the accumulation of heavy metals in stinging nettle and their total content in soil was found. The permissible content for plant food products was not exceeded in the case of copper. In the case of zinc it was exceeded in plants from the half of observation sites and in the case of lead and cadmium - always. In the light of proposed threshold levels (10 mg Pb kg⁻¹ and 0.3 mg Cd kg⁻¹) almost all tested samples might be considered as free from the contamination by lead but only four - by cadmium. The level of metal accumulation by individual plant parts differed. The highest content of Fe, Ni, Cr, Zn, and Cd was found in roots and rhizomes, that of Pb and Mn in leaves, and of Cu in inflorescences.

W pokrzywie zwyczajnej (Urtica dioica L.) zebranej z 10 stanowisk województwa małopolskiego oznaczono zawartość Fe, Mn, Ni, Cr, Zn, Cu, Pb, Cd, oddzielnie dla korzeni, liści, łodyg i kwiatostanów. Najwięcej Fe, Ni, Cr, Zn i Cd wykryto w korzeniach, najwięcej Pb i Mn w liściach, a Cu w kwiatostanach.
