W pracy oznaczono poziom kadmu, selenu, miedzi i cynku w wycinkach pooperacyjnych tkanki zdrowej i nowotworowej jelita grubego techniką AAS.

Colonic cancers are in men the second after pulmonary carcinoma and in women the third after breast and pulmonary carcinoma cause of death in highly developed countries. All over the world colonic cancer belongs to most frequent locations of malignant neoplasms and makes about 9% of causes of neoplasms-related deaths in both sexes. In Poland, colonic cancer is the third as regards frequency malignant neoplasm with increasing tendency by 1 to 3% a year. The aim of the study was to determine Cd, Zn, Cu and Se concentration in healthy and cancerous tissue collected intraoperatively from patients with colonic cancer. The tissue samples were collected from 11 patients (8 men and 3 women) with mucoid adenocarcinoma after surgical at the Department of General and Colorectal Surgery, Medical University Teaching Hospital in Łódź. All the examined patients were not subjected to radiotherapy or trace elements supplementation. The patients were described thoroughly. They were not occupationally exposed to heavy metals. Zn and Cu concentrations were determined with flame and Cd with flameless AAS method, whereas Se with spectrofluorometric method. It results from the investigations carried out in this study that the levels of majority of the analyzed elements were higher in cancerous tissue as compared to healthy tissue. However, cadmium concentrations were slightly lower. The calculations demonstrated high level of correlation (close to 1) in the healthy tissue between the concentration of zinc and copper, while in the cancerous tissue the correlation between these elements decreased significantly, which may prove the disturbance of essential metals homeostasis in the cancerous tissue.
