Pepsin forms insoluble complexes with protamine. Molar ratio of pepsin to protamine determining the highest amount insoluble complexes depends on pH. Molar pepsin/protamine ratio at pH 3.0 is 4:1. Pepsin-protamine complexes become dissociated by 0.32 mol/dm3 calcium chloride and 4.0 mol/dm3 sodium chloride, whereas 6.0 mol/dm3 urea gets them dissociated up to 75%. Therefore, it is reasonable to suppose that the components of the complexes are bound by ionic bonds.
