The purpose of the work was to establish the toxicity of Galium aparine seeds for hens. For examinations there were used 6 day old embryos and 1 day old chickens. An aqueous solution of the seeds at a dose of 8.7 mg was added to protein administered orally. The dose for chickens was 20 mg per day in a PBS solution. There was found a decrease of hatch at 6.1 % (p < 0.01). There was stated a lowered body weight of dead embryos on an average at 18% (p < 0.01) associated mainly with lack of protein utilization (p < 0.01). In the plasma of chickens which were given in the period of embryonic life the suspension of the seeds there was found a decreased level of total protein (p < 0.05) and immunoglobulins (p < 0.01). In chickens which received the suspension of the seeds after chatching there was noted a lowered level of immunoglobulins (p < 0.05) and necrotic foci in the heart and the destruction of the epithelium of intestinal villi.
