Województwo pomorskie stanowi dobre zaplecze do produkcji biomasy.

The aim of the study was to show interest and possibilities of the use of plant material for energy production by farmers from Pomorskie Province, Poland. The research materials included statistical data concerning biomass resources within the territory of Pomorskie Province as well as research results from a diagnostic survey conducted among 269 farmers of Pomorskie Province. The research was conducted during village council meetings. The technique employed was a survey. The research population was selected at random. Pomorskie Province is dependent upon external power deliveries as the local production covers only about 30% of the energy consumption. Energy obtained from renewable sources plays the key role in supporting the energy resources of the described region. Renewable energy sources (RES) share in the production of electrical energy in Pomorskie Province should amount to at least 15% in 2020 compared to 9.84% in 2010. One of the energy sources is biomass as this area contains a considerable potential of the resources of this material – 57,364 TJ per year. Raw solid biomass materials for electricity and heating include: straw, waste wood, biomass obtained from permanent energy crops as well as plants with high contents of starch and sugar and oily plants. The highest resources in the Province show in the permanent energy forest and waste wood biomass and amount to 34,043 TJ. Slightly smaller is the potential of the biomass from energy crops – 8,664 TJ. The potential of liquid bio-fuels is the lowest and amounts to 3,126 TJ. In total, per 1000 residents in Pomorskie Province, the biomass potential is 25.8 TJ and is higher by 2.3 TJ compared to all Poland. In the research conducted, farmers assumed that the use of plant material for the production of energy in Pomorskie Province is definitely too low. There was a fraction of farmers who would use straw, hay or inedible grains for energy purposes. Among the surveyed, only a few farmers have plantations of energy perennial crops, such as Miscanthus giganteus or willow. There are also farmers willing to start such crops. The surveyed farmers also grow and use plants with high contents of sugar and starch as well as oily plants. The surveyed notice certain barriers resulting from low profitability of energy farming, some existing problems with crop collection, storage and transport.
