Teaniarhynchosis is the commonest variety of taeniosis in Poznań voivodeship. In 1953-1962, the Consultation Centre of Parasitic Diseases in Poznań registered 1200 T. saginata carriers. A steady increase in the number of taeniosis is proportional to the augmented production of beef and the incidence cysticercosis detected in cattle. The half of affected persons came from the age group of 20-30 years; 118 cases of T. saginata invasion were observed in children at the age of 1.5 to 15 years. The workers of meat industry, butchers, professional cooks, waiters constituted only 7.2% of carriers. Some persons (11.1%) were probably infected by raw or halfraw cured pork products; 44.8% of carriers came to the Consultation Centre a month after the appearance of segments, but 4% of persons harboured the parasites for 5-34 years. The results of the ambulatory treatment (1223 cases) and follow-up examinations 4 months later showed that the efficiency of a single therapeutic course against taeniarhynchosis has an increasing tendency: in 1953-1957 it was 50-61% (atebrine per os, pumpkin seeds: cestodin), and in 1958-1961 it ranged between 74.4-85.5% (Cestodin, Acranil per os or Yomesan).
