The paper aimed at presenting links between Józef Piłsudski and physical culture from the moment of regaining independence by Poland to the coup d’état in May 1926. In that period of time Józef Piłsudski took part in numerous sports events organised on the occasion of state and military celebrations and became the patron of the Polish Committee of the Olympic Games, which should be recognised as the most important event of that time. Having withdrawn from the political life, Piłsudski maintained sports relationship with the army and relaxed watching football matches in Druskienniki.
