W Polsce na przestrzeni ostatnich lat obserwuje się wzrost popularności suplementów diety, zarówno wśród osób zdrowych, jak i chorych. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki pilotażowego badania ankietowego, którego celem była ocena częstości spożycia suplementów diety oraz przyczyn ich stosowania. Badanie przeprowadzono jesienią 2012 r. wśród 60 osób. Wyniki badania wskazują na dużą popularność suplementów diety - 58,3% badanych deklarowało ich stosowanie. Respondenci najczęściej (54%) sięgali po produkty złożone stanowiące kombinację witamin, składników mineralnych i innych składników, w tym składników roślinnych. Dużą popularnością cieszyły się także produkty witaminowe (29%) oraz produkty z kwasami tłuszczowymi omega-3 (23%). Badani stosowali suplementy diety przede wszystkim w celu uzupełnienia niedoborów w diecie (54,2%), a także w celu wzmocnienia odporności (42,8%) oraz poprawy kondycji skóry, włosów i paznokci (25,7%).

In recent years, the food supplements have been gaining in popularity in Poland among both healthy individuals and people suffering from various diseases. The article presents the results of pilot study the aim of which was to assess the frequency of consumption of food supplements and the reasons for their use. The study was conducted in autumn of 2012 among 60 people. The results of the study indicate a wide popularity of food supplements - 58.3% of the responders declared that they use them. Most of respondents (54%) consumed multi-component products containing vitamins, minerals and other components, including plant ingredients. The products containing vitamins (29%) and products with fatty acids omega-3 (23%) were very popular as well. The most common reasons for using food supplements by responders were: to supplement some ingredients in the diet (54.2%), to support body’s immune system (42.8%) and to improve condition of skin, hair and nails (25.7%).
