The studies were carried out on the farm S comprising 133 cows and heifers, and 35 bulls of Charolaise breed. The agar gel immunodiffusion test (AGID) was employed using gp antigen (Hoechst). The test was being repeated at intervals of 4—6 months. Following serological examinations the animals with positive results were isolated at the beginning in a separate part of a cowshed R and later in a separate cowshed. Only healthy animals free from EBL were moved in the cowshed; they originated from young animals which had been included to the programme of the EBL control. The starting examinations pointed to a different degree of infection in individual groups; cows — 33.7%, heifers — 20.8%, bulls — 8.6%. The authors began to put into effect that programme at the end of 1986. In the consecutive examinations a gradual decrease of infected animals was stated: in the group of cows it was 3.2% (two cows) and in the group of heifers 2.7% (one heifer). In the consecutive control studies there were noted negative results in the all animals under study. The findings proved that a proper antyepizootic measures could result in a decrease of infectious index and lead to achieve a herd free from EBL.
