The aim of performed field experiments was to assess the effect of both recommended and reduced does of herbicides on weed controlling, wheat yielding as well as grain structure and quality. Field strict experiments laid out with strip plot design in 3 replications were conducted in 2009–2010 at the Experimental Station for Plant Variety Evaluation in Krościna Mała near Wrocław. Two spring wheat varieties Tybalt and Parabola were treated with the following herbicides: Starane 250 EC at the doses 0.4 and 0.8 l/ha, and Chwastox Turbo 340 SL at the doses 1.0 and 2.0 l/ha. The results of field experiments showed that both herbicides used at full doses reduced the number of weeds by 85.4–87.5%, while the application of the same herbicides at a reduce dose by half resulted in 53.1–59.7% of weed reduction. Average fresh weight as compared to the control objects was reduced by 91.0–95.0% and 83.6–84.4% respectively. Average grain yield of wheat obtained from the objects from the objects treated with herbicides used at reduced by half was comparable to the objects treated with full herbicide doses. Both herbicides regardless of applied doses did not influence thousand grain weight and the number of grain in an ear, however they significantly affected the number of ear-bearing stems per area unit. Moreover, grain from treated objects revealed a higher protein content and sedimentation index.
