Twenty seven Small Polish Horses were given E. coli endotoxin at the rate of 0.1 µg/kg body weight. The blood was being taken directly before and 10 times within 48 hours after the endotoxin injection. Temperature, the time of blood coagulation, concentration of fibrinogen in the plasma and the number of blood platelets were examined. It was found that E. coli endotoxin caused a statistically significant increase of temperature (p ≤ 0.05), shortening time of coagulation, an increase of fibrinogen concentration, and a decreased number of blood platelets.
