Investigations on the effect of food on the length of life of adult insects Macrolophus melanotoma were carried out in the Department of Plant Protection Methods, Poznań University of Life Sciences in 2004–2006. It was found that females of M. melanotoma lived longer than males of this species. Relatively long lifespan was recorded for females reared on gerbera leaves and additionally fed on eggs of moths Anagasta kuehniella (41.1 days) or Sitotroga cerealella (36.2 days). In case of males the longest lifespan, amounting on average to 29.1 days, was recorded for insects feeding on the leaves of gerbera leaves and at the same time on eggs of S. cerealella.
