In 1993-1995 field experiments were conducted in two locations (Prusy and Wierzbica) with effect of two methods of sowing (barley in pure stand and in mixture with red clover) and with five harvest dates (optimal and 4 successive harvests with weekly delays). Grain yield was effected by the interaction of all factors at each location. On charnozen soil (Prusy) grain yield was on the average 1,4 t higher per hectar as compared with clay soil (Wierzbica). The delay of harvest by 2-3 weeks contributed to yield increase as compared with optimal date. Only in case barley with red clover mixture grown on highly productive size the yield was lowered due to lodging and grain germination.
