Prof. dr R. Gumiński passed away on the 26th of October 1952. Those who met Professor, in private life or at work, were moved by his death. He thought that life and a seientifie work should be combined. Professor deserves the credit for foundation of the Agrometeorology Department in the State Meteorologieal Institute. He also deserves credit for the retrieval of whole SMI archives which, were taken away to Germany during the war. Travelling abroad, frequently represented Polish meteorologists. In Poland, however, he actively participated in the work of Planning Committee and of Spatial Planning Office. At the same time Professor put his heard into didactic and scientific work. Of particular importance is his work Ważniejsze elementy klimatu rolniczego Polski południowo- wschodniej. New fields of climatology are introduced by following works: Uwagi o dawnych i nowych metodach klimatologii, Materiały do poznania genezy i struktury klimatu Polski. The death literally found him at his desk.
