Tourism develops very quickly nowadays. Tourism space (area) has a lot of definitions, but we still do not know how to investigate it, define its boundaries, and describe its evolution. Authors of this article tried define evolution of a small area on the example of urban and rural Gostynin communes, using different research methods. There are three possible development scenarios (fig. 2), but authors assume that stronger tourist space`s development is in rural than the urban commune. The first method to prove it was spatial analysis (fig. 1-9). Next method was an analysis of seven travel guides which come from different years (tab 1-2). Authors used the point bonuses method to show that natural environment (fig. 10), tourist development (fig. 11) and contrast of borders (fig. 12) influence the tourist attractiveness (fig. 13). Changes which take place in Gostynin tourist space are dynamic (fig. 14). Our results allow to state that the rural commune evolves quicker that the urban Gostynin commune. The reasons are the beauty of the natural environment and a significant number of agritourism farms. The urban commune has service functions. However we have still a lot of doubts how to define and describe this tourist space in a more complex way.
