The V Congress of the Association of Agricultural and Agribusiness Economists was held in Wroclaw, September 22-25, 1998. Wroclaw was hosting more than 200 of economists from Poland, Czech Republic, Belarus and Russia. The visit to the Congress was a good opportunity to participate in discussion of many issues divided into five broad subjects, namely: „Economic and organisational problems of farms”, „Problems of infrastructure of rural areas and agriculture”, „Agricultural policy”, „Entrepreneurship in rural areas” and „Problems of advisory services and education”. These topics were debated during plenary session and in the course of five scheduled thematic sessions. Authors of this report took part in the first and the second of selected sections. The report concentrates on structural changes in farms, the agricultural land market (mainly land prices), regional differentiation of production capacity of rural areas, and generally on regional differences in economic development of Poland and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
