The paper offers an evaluation of Giżycko's potential for tourism. The proposed list of natural and anthropogenic objects is compared against the town's postcards from the past 100 years and the opinions of the residents working in the tourist sector about the town's assets for tourism. The residents who are involved in the provision of tourist services regard their town as attractive, though mainly due to its natural environment. This seems to be the town's main asset. The potential of the tourist base is also rather highly evaluated, although it has its deficiencies. On the weaknesses' side, the town's poor transport facilities seem to be the main obstacle hindering its development for tourism. All in all, Giżycko seems to be only sufficiently attractive, although certainly it has a considerable potential in the form of interesting assets for tourism, as well as well-developed accommodation and catering facilities.
