The paper offers an analysis of definitions which allow for the use of the notion of 'region' in relation to the anthropogenically affected zones of underground gas pipelines. Since it is necessary to understand the nature of this zone to attempt its analysis, it is preceded by a short characteristics comprising inter alia the spatial range, the duration and impacts associated with the construction and operation of the pipeline.
