The paper presents the main issues related to the development of tourism in the world. The development of agritourism and rural tourism based on the number and distribution of active agritourism farms were presented in detail. The paper also presents main trends during transition and regional diversity of rural farms.

Omówiono główne zagadnienia związane z rozwojem turystyki na świecie. Szczegółowo zaprezentowano rozwój agroturystyki i turystyki wiejskiej w Polsce w oparciu o liczbę i rozmieszczenie gospodarstw prowadzących działalność agroturystyczną. Przedstawiono również tendencje przekształceń w czasie oraz zróżnicowanie regionalne gospodarstw agroturystycznych.
