Sytuacja na światowym rynku żywca wieprzowego w ostatnich dwóch latach determinowana była kryzysem gospodarczym, który spowodował spadek globalnego popytu na żywność i załamanie handlu zagranicznego. Spadek produkcji potęgowany był rosnącymi cenami pasz i pogorszeniem opłacalności chowu. Począwszy od 2010 roku można spodziewać się powrotu na ścieżkę wzrostu podaży. Czynnikami, które określać będą tempo i kierunek zmian, będą ceny mięsa w relacji do cen pasz, wzrost liczby ludności i dynamika spożycia w krajach rozwijających się, polityka poszczególnych państw dotycząca rozwoju sektora mięsnego oraz coraz wyższe wymogi weterynaryjne i jakościowe.

During two last years global swine sector was in a state of crisis as a result of two major forces - a dramatic increase of feed costs and decrease of meat consumption. Global economic growth is assumed to rebound to a higher average growth rate for 2010-2019, and the return to steady growth in world food demand is expected. Thanks to that, the pork production will grow and international trade will expand. Global export will be determined by costs of animal raising and environmental regulations relative to competitors. The aim of the paper is to present the situation in world pig market and to indicate the scale and direction of pork production development in the forthcoming decade.
