Pomimo znacznego wzrostu skuteczności skiningowego rtgrozpoznania nowotworu nadal omal 65% chorych maj zaawansowane III-IV stadium raka płuc.

Lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer and most of the more than 1.4 million lung cancer deaths that occur annually worldwide are caused by tobacco smoking [Thun M.J., 2008]. In Belarus, its annual incidence rate is second only to that of breast cancer. Lung cancer in Brest Region is still number one in structure of cancer morbidity among all the population – 11% and especially among men – 20%. Within the last decade the efficiency of diagnostics of lung cancer has considerably increased by means of radiological screening (from 18% to 44 % among all population). The development and use of minimally invasive diagnostic technologies have allowed to increase significantly (from 60% to 90%) histological confirmation rate of lung cancer. Unfortunately, despite the improvements in lung cancer radiological screening the proportion of potentially operable NSCLC at an early stage remains only at the level of 36% for the past ten years. Overall 5- year survival was five-fold lower in patients who had undergone non radical operations then in patients with lung cancer received absolutely curative resection (9% v 49%).
