The results of evaluation of potential water erosion threat in the Mątny stream basin, located in the Beskid Wyspowy, using the GIS techniques were presented in the work. The area of basin is 1,36 km2. Mean height of basin amounts 587,0 m asl. Mean basin slope is 15,49%. The Mątny stream basin is the basin of agricultural use, where share of arable lands is 56,62%, while forests occupy 7,35%. The highest threat of water erosion occurs on arable lands with high slopes and un¬suitably direction of cultivation. Calculated total potential amount of yearly soil loss on the area of investigated basin is 1741,1 Mg, what gives mean value for 1 ha of area for the whole basin 12,802 Mg. This is the value which classifies investigated basin to IV class (mean) in six-degree scale of water erosion threat.
