There was described eight cases of hyena syndrome in calves (1 male and 7 females White and Black breed). In animals with pathological changes there were performed morphometric and radiological examinations and the assessment of Ht, Hb, the number of erythrocytes and leukocytes, MCV, AP, GOT and GPT activity, the level of glucose, cholesterol, bilirubin, Ca, P, Mg, Fe in the serum, Mn in hair and liver and/or Ca, P, Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn and Ni in soil and feedingstuffs. Shortening of long bones, especially individual segments of hind extremities, was associated with the disturbances in the bone tissue mineralization (osteodystrophy fibrosis). There was found: an increase of P and Fe in the serum and fodder, a reduced concentration of Mn in tissues and soil, and Mn and Ni in feedingstuffs. The participation of these elements in the etiology of the disease have been discussed.
