Recently, in various scientific centers around the world, the global problem of the night sky pollution with artificial light is increasingly raised. This issue concerns the broadly understanding of biological life on Earth, including plants. It applies not only to the street lighting in the immediate proximity of plants. With the development of light technologies, various picturesque arrangements with plant illuminating systems at night are becoming more and more popular. This article discusses whether night lighting can modify plant metabolism, affect its growth and development. The influence of light on the physiological processes of plants and main pigments absorbing individual ranges of wavelengths were shortly presented. High sensitivity of photoreceptors was also emphasized. Some possible disturbances affected by night illumination/backlighting of plants have been described, including the physiology of woody plants with seasonality of its growth. Species sensitive to photoperiod prolongation with artificial light were mentioned. It was also proposed how the risk of damage can be reduced
