The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of natural haemolysis on the state of kidneys and livers in dogs suffering from babesiosis. Two groups of dogs were used in the study - 75 dogs with babesiosis and 20 healthy dogs as the control group. Besides evaluating the health status, direct and indirect laboratory diagnostics were performed: haemolysis and anemia intensification degree by erythrocytes mean count, haematocrite, hemoglobin blood, serum and urine concentration and kidney and liver state by urea, creatinine and bilirubin mean serum concentration, and serum activity of alanine transaminase. Dogs with babesiosis showed various clinical signs of the disease as well as consistent intravascular haemolysis, but of different intensity and rarely causing anemia. The study indicated, above all, the varied effect of hemoglobin and its metabolites released by haemolysis on the development of kidney and liver alterations, which, in turn, depended on the disease pattern and metabolic state of the animal.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of subclinical and clinical primary ketosis in cows on liver functioning, as well as the selection of optimal biochemical parameters set, useful in early diagnostic and evaluation of intensification of liver’s functional disorders accompanying this disease in cows. Blood samples from 121 cows in early lactation were taken, ketone bodies, free fatty acids (FFA), glucose, total bilirubine (TB), total bile acids (TBA), total protein (TP), albumine, serum triglyceride (TG) and cholesterol concentrations were evaluated as well as the FFA/TG and FFA/cholesterol ratio was estimated. The cows were divided into 3 groups: control group (n = 30), subclinical group (n = 32) and clinical ketosis group (n = 59) on the basis of the expression of clinical signs and level of ketonaemia in the blood. FFA/TG ratio, TB and TG seem to be the most reliable diagnostic liver function parameters in cows with primary ketosis.
The paper focuses on analyzing the reasons for abnormalities in follicular, ovulation and luteal function. Disturbances of these kinds are most often diagnosed in winter and transitional periods, and in old and lactating mares. These abnormalities affect ovulation cycles and cause sub fertility. Disturbances of follicular development, ovulations and luteal function can be diagnosed by anamnesis, estimation of sexual behavior, rectal palpation and ultrasonograph, and serum hormonal analysis. In order to give an accurate estimation and prognosis of follicular development and ovulation examinations of follicular vascularization (color-Doppler USG) and follicular fluid analysis (concentrations of: 17-β estradiol, inhibin-B, androstenedion, progesterone, heparin-like anticoagulant) must be performed. An accurate diagnosis of follicular abnormalities, ovulation and luteal function is necessary in order to choose the most suitable treatment.
