The most environmentally beneficial desulphurization technologies are the waste-free processes. They provide a high level of desulphurization, and some of them remove of nitrogen oxides. These technologies involve little or no waste. The author discusses three desulphurization technologies applied in Poland: the SOLONOX regeneration method, the radiative method, and sorption with wet regeneration of carbon sorbent.

Environmetalists from all over the world stand for balanced development. In the case of transport, this means a system of balanced mobility, in which the movement of people and goods functions from generation to generation, without exhausting the raw materials, energy sources and the environment, which all belong to each generation. That is why public means of transport should prevail. The very nature of the mass motorization of society contradicts sustainable development. Quoting a Greenpeace report, the author provides evidence that no human activity pollutes the environment to the same degree as the use of automobiles.
Researches on the content of Zn, Pb, Cu, and Cd in some medicinal plants have been carried out on the area of Medicinal Plants Garden of the Medicinal Academy in Wrocław, situated along a busy traffic road in the years 1990-1992. Four species have been tested on the lavel of contamination caused by exhaust gases at varied distances from the traffic road. The species were: Sambucus nigra L., Digitalis purpurea L., Taraxacum officinalis L. and Matricaria chamomilla L. Flowers and leaves were submitted to examination and an absorption spectrophotometry (AAS-1) was used to determine the level of contamination. The greatest amounts of heavy metals have been found in plants growing closest to the traffic road and the number of cumulated elements depended of the species and the anatomical parts thereof. The most contaminated by Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd were the plants of Digitalis purpurea L. The flowers of Sambucus nigra L. contained markedly more heavy metals than their fruits. The level of Cu and Cd was in the majority of plants tested within the natural background whereas the amount of Zn and Pb were considerably higher, thus eliminating the harvesting of medicinal herbs along traffic roads.
Motor vehicles are a significant source of pollution of the natural environment. To reduce its adverse effects lead-free petrol and catalytic converters are gradually introduced on an increasing scale. Because of high costs, implementation of these measures will take a long time. In short term, quantities of toxic combustion products can be reduced by lowering fuel consumption. The article presents the factors which affect consumption of liquid fuels (technical, operational, road and traffic factors as well as driving style). Thus, reduction in liquid fuel consumption by motor vehicles will result in a decrease in fuel expenses, and above all, it will abate pollution of the natural environment, particularly in urban centres.
Podjęto próbę określenia związków zachodzących pomiędzy obciążeniem ciągnika rolniczego pracami polowymi i transportowymi a emisją toksycznych składników spalin uwzględniając eksploatacyjne zużycie układu zasilania.
