In many countries, clinker kilns have been an important element of waste management for more than 20 years. Cement manufacture utilises, amongst others, combustible waste, which partially replaces the basic fuel, thus providing significant energy savings. Burning waste as a part of cement manufacture process is a viable option for the typical waste incineration plant. Adaptation of existing kilns to utilise combustible waste is significantly less expensive and more profitable than constructing a new incineration plant. Moreover, there is an added advantage of minimising adverse environmental impact.
