The aim of this research is to identify and analyse the situation of residents of selected nursing homes. The study covers residents of two nursing homes in the Podkarpackie region. Nottingham Health Profile measure was used to assess their quality of life. Nursing homes' residents rate their energy and physical efficiency as the lowest. Motor system diseases and impaired vision as well as co-occurring chronic diseases significantly affect the QoL. Out of all areas physical efficiency and emotional condition have the greatest impact on the QoL. Women and widowed persons report a clearly worse QoL. Persons who have lived in a nursing home for less than a year have the worst perception of their QoL.
This research analysed livelihood diversification and income in resident communities along the Kiri Dam, Adamawa state, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study were: to describe the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents, assess the level of livelihood diversification of the respondents, analyse income of the respondents, identify factors associated with varying levels of income, and identify constraints to livelihood diversification in the area. A multistage sampling technique was used to collect primary data from 120 respondents from the study area. The data collected were subjected to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The results showed that the majority of the respondents were male (78%), married (76%), educated (70%), below 60 years of age (93%) and employed in agricultural activities (83%). The Simpson index of diversification shows that 43% of the respondents diversify at an average level. The majority (60%) of the respondents’ annual income is over ₦ 200,000. The ordinary least square estimation shows that age, marital status, education, irrigation activities, fishing, farm size and level of diversification affect income level in the area. The main constraints to diversified livelihood in the area were a lack of basic social infrastructure, a hippopotamus menace and flooding. The study recommended the provision of social infrastructure and the control of hippopotamuses.

The aim of the study was to present the conditions for development of food production and distribution of organic products in Podkarpackie voivodeship and to present the opinions of consumers representing various local communities from this part of the country about purchased eco-food. To achieve this objective, a survey was conducted using direct interview method. The study involved a total of 700 residents of Podkarpackie gathered through a purposive sample. The market of organic food products is a future-oriented segment of the food market. Consumers from Podkarpackie voivodeship are of the opinion that increasing the supply of eco-products on the market in this part of the country should apply especially to dairy products, fruits and vegetables, honey, herbs, meat, and bread. The development of the organic food market will be stimulated by, among other things, the increase in demand that results from raising the level of consumer awareness of quality of organic food and its impact on health.
Subject and purpose of work: The article presents the results of a study which aimed to elicit the opinions of the residents of Polish cities belonging to the Cittaslow Network. Materials and methods: The surveys were conducted among 100 residents from 10 Polish Cittaslow cities. Results: Most of the respondents did not identify the city’s accession to the Cittaslow with the improvement of the quality of their lives. The residents’ opinions concerning the changes that occurred after joining the Network depended on their gender, age and education. Conclusions: The survey results have revealed that the membership of the Cittaslow is strictly promotional. Its main objective is to raise funds from projects that promote the idea of Cittaslow as well as to get a promotion by participating in various international events. The opinions of the inhabitants of Cittaslow cities indicate the lack of significant effects established in relevant documents and strategies.
Patrolling behavior plays an important role in resource defense and in shaping social interactions in territorial species. However, it is not clear whether and how resource deterioration affects patrolling and interactions between territorial males. We addressed this issue by studying the territorial patrolling of damselfly Calopteryx splendens males, which use riverine vegetation patches composed of floating rafts of Potamogeton natans as territories. Males can hold single territories established on one vegetation patch (solitary residents) or hold adjacent territories established on shared vegetation patch (contiguous residents). The study predicted that solitary males engage more in patrolling than contiguous residents and that patrolling intensity is proportional to patch quality. Two types of semi-natural vegetation patches were sunk: of high and low quality measured on the basis of the patch size (range 2–5 m2) and its attractiveness to damselflies (measured as number of residents, non-territorial males and contests observed at a given patch). Changes in number of patrolling flights were monitored for solitary and two contiguous residents: first which hold territory situated closer to the patch centre and secondary holding territory nearer to the edge of a patch. Results indicated that solitary residents patrolled more often than either of the two contiguous residents. Habitat deterioration significantly reduced the patrolling intensity of both single and first contiguous resident, however, their patrolling activity was not resumed at the same intensity after the original patch had been restored. The secondary resident of a contiguous pair did not respond to habitat deterioration, but increased its patrolling activity following restoration. Patch quality was found to have no impact on patrolling, which implies that social context can be more important in predicting changes in patrolling behavior in response to resource deterioration.
Because of the correlation between an individual’s health and physical activity, this study examines factors influencing the participation of rural residents in various recreational activities. Using survey data collected from rural residents of two areas of Lubelskie Voivodship, this paper fills the gap in research focused on rural residents. The response summary identifies the two most common forms of recreation among rural residents as walking and bicycling, recreation forms common in other European and non-European countries. To further identify personal characteristics and their relation to the frequency of recreational walking and biking, two equations were specified and estimated using latent dependent variable techniques. The results equation showed that females and farmers were more frequently walking than men or non-farming rural residents. In the case of recreational biking, married respondents, farmers, and residents of the northern area of Lubelskie were twice as likely to bike often or very often than the non-married, not employed in farming, and residents of the southern area. Results indicate that in addition to different demographic characteristics, location determines physical activity as reflected in recreational walking and biking, suggesting different approaches are needed to increase participation in either form of recreation among rural residents.
This study identifies respondent characteristics influencing the opinion of Polish residents regarding the euro. Using data collected from 200 residents of Łuków and Biała Podlaska districts in Lubelskie Province, a decision model was specified where the choice of opinion about the euro was determined by demographic and socio-economic characteristics, household size, and location. Results show that the largest change in probability of choosing the opinion that the euro would strengthen in the future resulted from an increase in income and number of children in a household, but the probability would decrease, although by a small amount, if a respondent resided in a rural area or was fully employed.
