The variation in size and shape of Bearded Tit eggs was investigated in the Wielkopolska Region of western Poland in 1988-1992 and 1997-2000. The mean clutch size was 5.47 (95% CL: 5.25-5.70, n = 99), and differed markedly from year to year. Coefficients of variations for the mean egg characteristics in a clutch ranged from 1.91 (breadth) to 4.90 (volume). No significant correlation between egg length and breadth was found. Repeatability estimates were 0.50, 0.48, 0.50, 0.47 for length, breadth, volume and elongation index, respectively. The results suggest a relatively low heritability of egg dimensions in the population studied.

The European Standards 12721 and 12722 specify a method for the assessment of the surface resistance to wet and dry heat of furniture respectively. The aim of the research is to establish data on the test precision of both tests in order that this precision is mentioned on the standards and test reports based on them. It is intended to measure the reproducibility and repeatability according to the standard ISO 5725-2 of data obtained in an international round-robin exercise carried out by eight participating laboratories expert in furniture surfaces. The results presented show that the repeatability variance is almost 0, while the between-laboratory variance is between 0 and 1, according to the order of increment of the assessment rating code.

An experiment was established to study a population of long raceme peduncle-type (lp-type) lucerne. 15 groups of plants were grown in selection plots. Each group comprised plants originating from seeds collected from a single plant, and since lucerne is allogamous, the obtained results provided a basis for an evaluation within the maternal line. The aim of this study was to analyze the seed yield and the expression of phenotypic traits affecting the seed yield structure. Principle component analysis (PCA) was performed. The Euclidean distance and K-means grouping were used as a taxonomic measure of similarity between groups. Two agglomerated phenotypic groups were discriminated within the examined population, and the differentiating traits in a multivariate analysis were: number of racemes per shoot, number of seeds per shoot and seed yield per shoot. Statistical characteristics of the distinguished groups provided a basis for determining the ideotype with a high seed yield.

Оценивали повторимость основных полезных признаков (продуктивность потной шерсти, длину шерсти на боку, плодовитость с оплотво- римость овцематок) в одном из стад длинношерстной польской овцы и сравнивали полученные результаты (показатели) со средним значением указанных признаков у овцематок в очередных 11 возрастах. Заметный прогресс был отмечен в количестве потной шерсти от овцы и в оплодотворимости. Оцененная повторимость указанных признаков составляла соответственно R = 0,692 и R = 0,314. Остальные два признака показывали в период 11 лет некоторые колебания от возраста к возрасту без заметной тенденции к улучшению. Повторимость признака длины шерсти составляла R = 0,037, а оплодотворимость R = 0,351. Низкая повторимость первого признака связано,по имению авторов, с небольшой точностью его измерения у овцы длинношерстного типа. Сравнительно высокие показатели повторимости исследуемых признаков (хроме длины шерсти) связаны по всей вероятности с высшей генетической изменчивостью этой породной группы выведенной сравнительно недавно путем скрещения нескольких пород.
